Background
Originally from Newcastle NSW, Kate commenced full-time ballet training at the Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy where she studied the Royal Academy of Dance and Vaganova programs. At age 16 she moved to Germany to undertake a professional dance education ('State-Examined Classical Dancer') at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. Her teacher Ute Mitreuter-Russo studied at the famous Vaganova Ballet Academy in St Petersburg and this has strongly influenced Kate's own teaching style which also follows the Russian method. The Russian (Vaganova) method of ballet training is widely regarded as the best training system in the world.
After dancing for six years in Germany, Kate returned to Australia to pursue teaching studies. She furthermore moved to Melbourne in order to study the Russian ballet teaching method under Robert Ray and Janne Blanche at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Following preliminary teaching studies, Kate spent a year studying contemporary dance in the Victorian College of the Arts' Bachelor of Dance, fast-tracking and graduating from the final year in 2007.
Upon graduation Kate was contracted in the role of Dance Presenter by Out There- The Australian Ballet in Schools to teach and present dance in primary schools throughout Victoria. In 2008 she continued to dance professionally, travelling to Vienna to rehearse with the Vienna State Opera Ballet for Andre Rieu's World Stadium Tour.
Kate opened Melbourne School of Classical Dance (MSCD) in 2008 and at that time gave up her performance career to dedicate her time and expertise to developing her students, some of whom are now pursuing vocational studies in MSCD's pre-professional program and others who have been accepted into The Australian Ballet School and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
